STA Level 2 Award in Teaching Swimming
The STA Award in Teaching Swimming is the perfect first step into beginning an exciting career as a swimming teacher. With no experience needed this is the perfect way to get you started on that journey!
As a swimming teacher, you will be responsible for planning, teaching, and evaluating up to 12 swimmers from non-swimmers up to improvers (children and adults).
This award will develop the vocational and technical skills you require as a swimming teacher, allowing you to independently teach your very own class, providing you with the knowledge, skills and techniques needed to provide swimming lessons.

You will be qualified to deliver up to the Goldfish stage of the STA’s international learn to swim programme and be able to gain employment as a swimming teacher, teaching non-swimmers to improvers. As an internationally recognised qualification you will be able to take your swimming teaching career around the world!

Pre-Course Requirements:
To take the Level 2 Award in Teaching Swimming, you must meet the following requirements:

More Information:
​In Person Learning: You will complete a minimum of four full days in person in Aviemore or a location of your choosing for bespoke courses. You will participate in a mixture of theory based learning and practical teaching to your peers on the course and children / adults. Each day of the course will have in water practical teaching elements.

Assessment: You will complete a course portfolio, worksheets and participate in classroom discussions and activities as part of your learning. You will develop 3x ten-week schemes of work, 4 lesson plans and evaluate 4 lessons you have delivered during your course. The course is tutor assessed throughout with a final 30 minute assessment of your practical teaching by an approved external STA assessor and finally undertake a short multiple choice question paper via the Cirrus platform or in person depending on your course format.

Courses typically start at 09:30am and finish at 5:30pm - this will be confirmed during booking. Your course tutor will ensure you have all the learning materials you need and provide support with getting set up with the digital multiple choice question paper platform.​

 After Your Course:Â
On completion of your Level 2 Teaching course you will have the required qualification to teach groups of up to 12 swimmers to intermediate level.
You will have the confidence you need to plan, deliver and evaluate a series of progressive and fun swimming lessons.
You will be able to teach a range of aquatic and safety skills such as floating, rotation, water confidence and swimming strokes.
